Rachel is a recent graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her main focus is in painting and drawing with an interest in philosophy.
Her artwork mainly considers safety and protection, whimsy and weirdness. The key to this is to search for a balance between the positive, neutral and negative things in life, and then let them define each other. More often than not her work favors a positive perspective, but includes the broader dialogue. In less abstract terms protection and safety exist because there are things we as people want to protect ourselves from, the whimsical exists as an escape from less favorable realities, and so on. The intended result is the option to consider all things more openly, the good the bad and the unplaceable. To create an open invitation to think, one where it’s safe and ok to consider difficulties, and retains a sense of humor and fun.
