Louis Barak is an Israeli American Jewish artist based in Chicago, known for his vibrant paintings, murals, and tattoos that celebrate Jewish identity and history with a modern flair. Following the October 7th massacres and subsequent rise in antisemitism, he felt compelled to redefine Judaica, moving away from traditional melancholic representations to showcase a more proud and dynamic modern Jewish identity. His art aims to challenge perceptions and educate others about Judaism and Israel, while his personal journey has deepened his connection to his heritage. Using mediums including acrylic, oil, and spray paint, Louis Barak’s work is characterized by bold colors and fluid lines. He also owns a private tattoo studio, providing a safe space for Jewish clients. He has numerous murals throughout Chicago which received recognition from the City of Chicago and were highlighted in the Chicago Sun Times. In 2023, he donated murals in the Philippines and participated in Miami Art Week. He travelled to Israel in 2024 for artistic inspiration and to nourish his spirit. He continues to develop his practice at Barak Studios in the River West neighborhood of Chicago.
